When is a polling question considered chatting?

Polling and surveys are used to obtain statistics. If someone wanted to know what parts of the country have the most people using Yahoo Answers they would have to ask what state you are from. If they wanted to know the average age they would have to ask your age. Is it therefore against Yahoo Answer's rules to ask any kind of demographic question?
