Why is Techno music so popular?

I've always been a fan of the clics (anything before the 80's) Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Lightnin Hopkins, I like all the blues men. I also listen to some more recent stuff just to give it a chance. Some alternative (which is ok I guess) some punk (not a huge fan) and some death metal for variety (I definitely couldn't handle that, it's just screaming and static to me) But recently I tried listening to some techno music, and I don't get it...It's not that its bad, but if I wanted to hear a bunch of beeps in fast succession, I would boot up Microsoft DOS, not listen to music. I mean sure, it's kinda cool, but it just sounds computerized and fake, and I wanted to know some people's opinions on techno, because I don't understand what makes it so popular.
