HELP. seeing him for the first time in months!?

I had a thing with a guy from school for a long time. We were getting serious, towards the beginning of the summer. But as the summer went on, our talking became shorter and eventually stopped all together. It ended so quickly, i want to know if he still thinks of me? It has been awhile since we texted last and for some reason i am really apprehensive to text him again. Why am i so afraid? i mean we are still friends. Anyway, this coming week i am going to get together with my bestfriend some other people, and possibly him. Is it a good idea to see him again? Would it be a good opportunity to talk again? or should i give up?
