Perpetuating Myths?

I have studied the Paranormal for over thity years.Why do American teenagers continue to persist in believing in monsters? Fictional monsters include -Werewolves, Vampires,Zombies,Demons etc. They are all imaginative inventions of wildly imaginative authors.Plus of course-Aliens(from outer space).It is little wonder America is full of Neurotics and head cases.But surely parents must know the difference?
