Why is packing so tedious?

It should be fun and exciting because you're going somewhere new, but I just hate it. I never pack until the very last minute because I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead I do things like sit on YA wasting time. How do you make packing interesting without having Mary Poppins-esque powers?
